Tracking Links

A tracking link is a short link you create in FirstLook. When someone clicks it, FirstLook records the click and then sends them on to wherever you chose. That destination can be your sign-up page, your Steam store page, or any other URL.

It’s hard to tell which promotions players actually engage with. A tracking link shows you how many people click through from a single post, video, newsletter, or campaign, so you can focus on what’s working and drop what isn’t.

Clicks
Every visit to a tracking link counts as a click, including repeat visits from the same person.

Visitors
A unique visitor is a daily hash of the game, IP address, and User-Agent.

Bots
Clicks from known bots, link previewers, and headless browsers are filtered out, along with any User-Agent that doesn’t identify a real browser or OS.

VPNs
We don’t filter by IP, so clicks from VPNs and cloud networks are counted.

Timezone
Days follow your game’s timezone. Use UTC when comparing with other tools.

From the side menu, navigate to Analytics → Tracking Links, open the Links tab, and click Create Tracking Link.

  1. Give the link a Title your team will recognize, such as Launch trailer – YouTube. You can add a Description for extra notes.

  2. Set the Destination. Use one of the Suggested options, or paste any URL:

    • Playtest sign-up: your default flow’s sign-up page.
    • Steam store page: shown once your Steam App ID is set.
    • Creator sign-up: shown when creator sign-up is enabled.
    • Anything else: your studio homepage, a static page, a Discord invite, a press kit.
  3. Choose a Domain and, optionally, an Identifier. For example, yourgame.clck.gg/newsletter. If you leave the identifier blank, one is generated for you.

  4. Optionally fill in UTM Parameters. Values you set here are always added to the destination URL. Parameters you leave blank pass through whatever the visitor’s link already carries.

  5. Click Create Tracking Link. Copy the short link from the Links table, or click QR code to download a PNG.

To retire a link, turn off Enabled. A disabled link stops redirecting until you turn it back on.

Open the Performance tab. To see a single link, click its title in the Links tab.

Hits and Visitors
Total clicks and unique visitors per day, over the selected range. Both are compared against the previous period.

  • Referrers: the site the click came from, when the app reports one.
  • Countries
  • UTM Tags
  • Devices: device type, browser, and OS.
  • Link Addresses: which domain or path was used.

You share the same news in an email and in your community server. Give each its own tracking link under the same campaign, then compare them in Top Links to see which drove more traffic and deserves more effort next time.

Put a link’s QR code on your booth banner or flyer at an event. Every click on that link came from someone standing in front of it.
