Segments
Segments are groups of players that assign themselves. Define a set of filter conditions once and FirstLook keeps the group in sync automatically, adding players as they qualify and removing them when they no longer do. A “High Engagement” segment built on 10+ hours of playtime adds players as soon as they cross that threshold.
Segments accept the same conditions as the Players search (player role, analytics events, survey responses, and other player filters) and work everywhere tags do: filtering, announcements, Discord role grants, and bulk actions. A Segment is a tag whose membership is managed automatically instead of by hand.
Creating a Segment
Section titled “Creating a Segment”- Navigate to Configuration → Segments
- Select Add Segment to open the segment editor
- Enter a name, icon, and color
- Define your filter conditions. These are the same filters available on the Players search page.
- Review the Matched Players count at the bottom to preview how many players will be included
- Select Create to save the segment
FirstLook will immediately evaluate the criteria and add all matching players.
Editing Segment Criteria
Section titled “Editing Segment Criteria”Open the segment from Configuration → Segments and select Edit Criteria. Adjust your conditions and select Save to apply. FirstLook re-evaluates the segment and updates membership, adding newly matched players and removing players who no longer qualify.
Removing a Segment
Section titled “Removing a Segment”Open the segment from Configuration → Segments and select Delete. This removes the segment and all of its automatic memberships immediately and cannot be undone.
How Segments Stay in Sync
Section titled “How Segments Stay in Sync”- When a player’s data changes (new analytics events, role changes, profile updates), their Segment membership re-evaluates immediately.
- When you update a Segment’s filter conditions, a full re-evaluation runs against all players.
- Every 3 hours, all Segments across all games are fully re-evaluated as a safety net for changes that weren’t triggered by the event-driven paths above.
Segment Restrictions
Section titled “Segment Restrictions”Because Segment membership is managed automatically, you cannot manually add or remove players from a Segment. The tag picker on the player detail page and bulk actions show Segments as read-only. To change who’s included, update the Segment’s filter criteria instead.
Discord Roles
Section titled “Discord Roles”Segments can grant Discord roles just like manual tags. See the Tags page for how role assignment works.
